How Are Glow Sticks Used in the Fishing Industry?

    Glow Sticks

Glow sticks are small enclosed plastic tubes that emit light. The light is caused by a chemical reaction. Depending on the size of the glow stick, it can glow for more than 24 hours. The sticks do not begin to glow until a capsule inside the glow stick that contains one of the chemicals is broken, which allows the chemicals to interact and start the chemical reaction that causes the glowing light.

    Why Glow Sticks

Glow sticks are used in the fishing industry because they attract fish. It is believed that the glowing light looks the same as the glowing light emitted by some types of fish. Some fish that are attracted by this light are swordfish, tuna, bass, salmon, walleye and panfish. Glow sticks are also used to light up boats and fishing rods during nighttime fishing. Not only do the glow sticks attract fish by themselves, they also light up the bait or other lures, which allows the fish to see them from a greater distance.

    Usage

Glow sticks often line commercial fishing nets to lure fish into the nets. Glow sticks are also connected to fishing lines next to bait or other more traditional lures. They are connected to the lines either by a clip that has been built into the glow stick or by a plastic sleeve that comes with glow sticks that are packaged and sold specifically for fishing.
